South Asia

Sri Lanka

Forts, beaches & tea hills

Overview

A compact island that contains ancient kingdoms, colonial forts, wildlife-filled national parks, and some of the most beautiful beaches in Asia.

Sri Lanka punches far above its size. In two weeks you can stand beneath a 2,000-year-old stupa in Anuradhapura, watch elephants in Yala, sip single-origin tea on a misty Nuwara Eliya estate, and kayak through Mirissa's mangroves. The island moves at a gentle rhythm that its visitors tend to adopt within 48 hours. Our itineraries are designed to let that happen.

Highlights

The Cultural Triangle

Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Sigiriya — three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, each a different chapter in a 2,500-year story. Sigiriya's Lion Rock at sunrise is among Asia's finest sights.

Tea Country

Nuwara Eliya and the Ella hills — colonial bungalows repurposed as boutique hotels, private tea estate tours, and train journeys through emerald valleys that look like another century entirely.

Yala & the Leopards

Sri Lanka has the world's highest density of wild leopards. A private jeep with our naturalist guide in Yala increases your sighting probability considerably over the standard tourist circuit.

Galle Fort

The Dutch-built fort city on the southern tip. Churches, boutiques, and restaurants inside 17th-century ramparts, with the Indian Ocean on three sides.
